In 1999 he was in the single canoe (C1) over 500 m junior world champion , in the four-man canoe (C4) he won the bronze medal over 1000 m. A year later he won silver in the two-man canoe (C2) at the European Junior Championships. 2001 Nuck started again at the Junior World Championships and won gold in two over 1000 m and was second over 500 m in one and four. Because of a positive doping control , Nuck was suspended for six months in 2002. In March 2003 he did not follow another doping control, after which he was banned from all competitions until March 2005.

In 2005 he took part in a European Championship for the first time and won gold in the four-man over 1000 m. Over 500 m and 200 m he was third in the four-man canoe. At the Canoe World Championships in 2005 he also competed in a four-man over three distances. He won bronze over 1000 m, over 500 m and 200 m he came fourth. In 2006 he won the European and World Cup titles in the C4 over 1000 m and silver in the C2 over 500 m with Stefan Holtz . In 2007, Nuck's best EM result was bronze in the C4 over 500 m. The canoe racing world championships in Duisburg in 2007 brought Nuck two more silver medals in the four-man canoe over 1000 m and 500 m.

Since he could not find a two-man partner in his Leipzig club, the sports soldier switched to the Rheinbrüdern Karlsruhe for one year in spring 2009 , for whom Stefan Holtz also started. At the European Canoe Racing Championships in 2009 , Nuck and Holtz won the title over 500 m and bronze over 200 m in the C2 and, together with Sebastian Brendel and Chris Wend, won silver with the C1 relay over 4 x 200 m behind Russia . In the same year, the duo was able to repeat the same results over 500 m and 200 m at the World Championships , while it only reached fourth place in the relay. Robert Nuck has been with the Federal Police since 2009 . After returning to Leipzig, he had to sit out in the 2010 season due to an injury. On January 1, 2011, Stefan Holtz from Karlsruhe also switched to SC DHfK Leipzig in order to be able to train together with Nuck again in 2011. The duo could not qualify for the European Championships 2011 with an eighth place over 1000 m in the qualifying race in Duisburg at the beginning of April 2011 and was then dissolved. With his new partner Erik Leue , Nuck, who was in poor health, could not prevail in the World Cup qualification against the duo consisting of Stefan Holtz and Tomasz Wylenzek .

At the 2013 World Championships , he and his old partner Stefan Holtz secured the world title on the 200 m sprint course. At the European Canoe Racing Championships in 2014 , they won silver on the 200 m sprint course. They did the same at the World Championships in Moscow the following month .
