The Rheinbrüder Karlsruhe eV are a sports club founded on October 1st, 1922 in Karlsruhe . Originally it was a pure canoeing club for canoe racing and white water , it was later expanded to include skiing and sailing .

The canoe racers of the club achieved numerous German championship titles and several medal wins at world championships. The most successful club member is Olympic champion Detlef Hofmann , who at the time of his success started for the WSV Mannheim-Sandhofen .

The Rheinbrüder Karlsruhe were founded on October 1st, 1922. At first, after the end of the swimming pool, they trained in the Rappenwörth swimming pool. The so-called canoeists moved to the island of Rappenwörth in the Daxlanden district in 1936 , where their boathouse is located between the old Rhine arm and the Rhine. The canoe racing team was relocated to the Rheinhafen Karlsruhe in 1948 due to better training opportunities , where they first found accommodation in the boathouse of the rowing club KRV Wiking, and finally in 1959 inaugurated their own boathouse next to it.

In 1929, seven years after the club was founded, the systematic training work began, which led to the rise to one of the best canoe racing teams in the district.

In the youth field, the Rhine brothers won the German championship in single and two-man canoeing in Starnberg in 1949, and the youth championship in two-man canoeing in Hanover in 1950.

The first international regatta after the Second World War took place in Karlsruhe in 1950, followed by the German Canoe Championships in 1953. This developed into the first great success of the Rhine brothers, which brought them six out of seven German championships.

In 1969 the Rheinbrüder Karlsruhe won four gold medals at the German Championships, juniors of the Rheinbrüder took part in the European Junior Championships in Moscow.

In 1970 Heiderose Wallbaum won bronze at the world championships in  four-man kayaks , in 1971 she was runner-up in the four-man kayak and finished fifth in two-man at the Olympic Games in Montreal.

In 1977 and 78, the team won silver and bronze, at the German championships they managed to win the title in the 6000 meter single and double.

In 1988 the Rhine brothers won one title at the first school championships, and in 1989 three more.

Between 1990 and 1992 two German championship titles were achieved, and in 1992 the association was awarded the Dresdner Bank Green Belt for outstanding support.

In 1994 the German Championships took place, which were extremely successful for the Rhine brothers with eleven gold, one silver and one bronze.
