Maren Knebel

Maren Knebel (born June 3, 1985 in Karlsruhe ) is a German canoeist and double world champion.

At the age of eleven, Knebel began canoeing with the Rhine brothers in Karlsruhe . For the Rheinbrüder Karlsruhe , she won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Championships in a four-person kayak over 1000 m. In 2007 she qualified for the senior national team and represented Germany in the women's K4 at the World Championships in Duisburg . There she won both titles in the K4 over 200 m and 500 m.

In 2008 Knebel missed the nomination for the Beijing Olympics with poor results in the national qualification . You have "not done enough" to be there in China, said her home trainer Detlef Hofmann . She lost the support of the German Sports Aid as well as her employment with the Bundeswehr and went to training in England. In order to make a living, she worked as a waitress at Starbucks . She wanted to compete for the English Canoe Association in the future, her goal was naturalization and participation in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Maren Knebel is a student and lives in Karlsruhe.
