Tate Smith

Tate Smith (born November 18, 1981 in Sydney ) is an Australian canoeist and rescue athlete .

He participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. With the four-man kayak he was eliminated in the semi-finals. At the 2011 World Championships he won the silver medal behind Germany with Jacob Clear , Murray Stewart and David Smith . His greatest success came at the Olympic Games in London, when the Australians became Olympic champions in the same line-up in the K4. In 2013, Smith won bronze in the K4 at the World Championships . In July 2014, however, he was tested positive for stanozolol during a training check in Hungary and was then banned for two years.

Rescue Sports

Smith was also one of Australia's top rescue athletes. In 2006 he became Australian champion in surf ski racing. With his club, the Northcliffe SLSC, he also won gold and silver medals at the world championships in rescue sports.
