North American-Catalan Society

The North American Catalan Society ( North American Catalan Society or NACS ) is a professional society that all researchers, students and people in general, especially in the USA and Canada collects the interest in any aspect of the culture of the Catalan countries and the Catalan language ( Literature , linguistics , art , history and philosophy, etc.) show.

It was founded in 1978 during the First Colloquium of Catalan Studies in North America . This colloquium is being held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and it was sponsored by Josep Roca i Pons . The NACS is dedicated to promoting the study of the Catalan language and its culture in academic areas of North America. It also publishes the Catalan Review : International Journal of Catalan Culture .

In 1997 the Institute for Catalan Studies and the Regional Catalan Government awarded the NACS the prestigious Ramon Llull Prize for promoting Catalan culture in the world. In 1998 NACS also received the Creu de Sant Jordi Prize .

The current president (for 2013-2015) is Lourdes Manyé, who is a teacher at Furman University .
