Lutz Altepost (born October 6, 1981 in Emsdetten ) is a former German canoeist and current trainer .

Career

Altepost, who started in this sport at the age of 10, achieved his first successes during his school days. After starting out with the Canu-Club Emsdetten, he switched to KG Essen at the beginning of his international career . Since the beginning of 2007 he has started for the KC Potsdam , after having trained for several years at the Olympic base in Potsdam (coach: Rolf-Dieter Amend ). First, he was sporting a soldier of the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr . From 2005 he studied mechanical engineering at the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences .

In addition to the single kayak, Altepost has been riding in the four-man kayak of the German team for a long time and in 2005, after a change in line-up due to the poor performance (8th place) at the European championships, he became batsman of the parade boat. Since this year he has also been the athletes' spokesman for racing canoeists.

In spring 2007 he was unable to take part in the national qualifying regattas due to illness and was only nominated for the World Championships on non-Olympic distances. Shortly before the World Championships in Duisburg , he was again batsman in the 1000 m foursome and then surprisingly led the team to win the title. At the 2008 Olympics , he won the bronze medal with the foursome.

For this he received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Koehler.

He has been a trainer at KC Potsdam since winter 2010.
