Kristof Wilke (born April 17, 1985 in Radolfzell on Lake Constance ) is a former German oarsman.

Life

Kristof Wilke began his rowing career on Lake Constance, since 2001 he has been working for RC Undine Radolfzell , he trains with Christian Viedt. In the under 23 age group, Wilke won two world championship titles. In autumn 2007 he and his club mate Andreas Penkner planned to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing in two pairs. Shortly before the Olympic Games in 2008, the two were appointed to the Germany eight in a controversial decision because of their small boat performance . There the eighth finished last in the pre-run, hope run and B-final. A year later, Wilke won the gold medal at the 2009 World Rowing Championships with eighth.

On August 1, 2012, Wilke won the gold medal in eighth place at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The teams from Canada and Great Britain were sent to their places.

He took silver at the 2013 World Rowing Championships , behind the United Kingdom and ahead of the United States. After a less than successful season in 2015 due to injury, he missed the preparation for the 2016 Summer Olympics and ended his career.

For his sporting success he was honored with the silver laurel leaf on November 7, 2012 .

Kristof Wilke studied sport and biology at the Ruhr University Bochum . He works as a teacher in Dortmund.
