James "Jim" Benner Juvenal (born January 12, 1874 in Philadelphia , † September 1, 1942 ibid) was an American rower . James Juvenal rowed for the Vesper Boat Club Philadelphia . He won over 100 races between 1893 and 1906, including the 1902 US Championship in One.

When the Olympic rowing competitions were held for the first time at the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 , the eighth of the Vesper Boat Club was the only American boat at the start. William Carr , Harry DeBaecke , John Exley , John Geiger , Edwin Hedley , James Juvenal, Roscoe Lockwood , Edward Marsh and helmsman Louis Abell won with six seconds ahead of the Belgian eighth. Four years later, four rowers from the United States started in the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis . On the 1.5 mile route Frank Greer won in 10: 08.5 minutes with two boat lengths ahead of James Juvenal, half a boat length behind Constance Titus crossed the finish line in third place.

After graduating from the Drexel Institute , Juvenal worked for the Philadelphia Electrical Company for over 40 years . In addition to his professional career, Juvenal was a rowing coach at the Malta Boat Club and the Pennsylvania Barge Club in Philadelphia.
