Uwe Dühring

Uwe Dühring (born November 23, 1955 in Berlin ) is a former rower from the GDR. In 1980 Dühring was Olympic champion in eighth place .

The rower from SC Dynamo Berlin won the 1972 Spartakiade and the Junior World Championships with eighth place . In 1973 he won the Junior World Championships in a four-man with helmsman . After he and Bernd Höing finished fourth in the GDR championships in two-man without a helmsman in 1977 , both switched to eighth, which became world champion in 1978. For this, the world champion crew in the GDR was voted Team of the Year . At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, the eighth in the line-up Bernd Krauss , Hans-Peter Koppe , Ulrich Kons , Jörg Friedrich , Jens Doberschütz , Ulrich Karnatz , Uwe Dühring, Bernd Höing and helmsman Klaus-Dieter Ludwig won by almost three seconds the runner-up British. In addition to Dühring, Höing and Karnatz were there from the 1978 eighth; Friedrich, Krauss and Ludwig joined the world championship boat in 1979, Kons was there in 1977, Doberschütz and Koppe were new to the eighth.

Dühring was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit for his sporting successes in 1978 and 1980 .
