Cristinel Cornel Nemțoc (born February 8, 1974 in Costişa , Suceava County ) is a former Romanian rower who won five world championship medals in eighth .

Athletic career

The 1.98 m tall Cornel Nemțoc won the four-man title at the Junior World Championships in 1991 , and in 1992 he won the silver medal behind the Germans in the same boat class. In 1993 he competed for the first time with the Romanian eighth and won the silver medal behind the Germany eighth at the 1993 World Championships in Račice u Štětí . At the 1994 Indianapolis World Championships , Nemțoc took part in two boat classes. In the four without a helmsman , the Romanians missed participation in the A final. With the eighth he won the bronze medal behind the boats from the United States and the Netherlands. In 1995 Nemțoc only came in eighth, who finished fifth at the World Championships in Tampere . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the Romanian eighth finished in seventh place as the winner of the B final after missing the final by 0.55 seconds against the Australians.

In 1997, Nemțoc competed in the world championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette in a four without a helmsman and in an eight. In the four, Dorin Alupei , Claudiu Marin , Cornel Nemțoc and Florian Tudor won the bronze medal behind the British and the French. All four rowers won the silver medal behind the boat from the United States with the eighth. At the 1998 World Championships in Cologne, Nemțoc rowed in two boat classes as in the previous year. With the four without a helmsman, he finished fifth, the eighth won the bronze medal behind the boats from the United States and Germany. In 1999 Nemțoc won the World Cup regattas in Hazewinkel and Vienna with the Romanian eighth . At the World Championships in St. Catharines , the Romanian eighth finished fourth. The following year, Nemțoc reached sixth place with eighth at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

At the 2001 World Championships in Lucerne, Nemțoc competed in two with helmsman and eight. The British won in a two-man ahead of the Italians, followed by Cornel Nemțoc, Ioan Florariu and helmsman Marin Gheorghe who won the bronze medal. The next day all three were also in the eight, which won the title ahead of the Croatians and the Germans. This was the first ever world title for the Romanian men's eighth. He also competed in both boat classes at the 2002 World Championships , fourth place in two with helmsman followed by eighth place with eighth. After tenth place with eighth at the 2003 World Championships , he finished tenth in the four-man with helmsman at the 2004 World Championships .
