In 1997 he finished third at the Rowing World Cup in Munich with a U23 team in eighth place, the boat qualified for the Nations Cup and won the U23 world championship title in eighth. In 1998 he qualified together with his club mate from Dresden RC , Enrico Schnabel , for the Germany eight and won the silver medal at the home world championship in Cologne just behind the USA . 1999 Dießner missed the renewed qualification for the Germany eight. He started with Enrico Schnabel and helmsman Felix Erdmann in two with helmsman at the World Championship in St. Catharines, Canada. In the race, the trio won the silver medal behind the USA.

In 2000, Jörg Dießner was able to qualify as one of 14 oar rowers for the Olympic Games in Sydney (2 in a two-man, 4 in a four-man, 2 substitute, as well as a lightweight foursome and two substitutes). To reach place. 2001 Dießner rowed again in Germany eighth and won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Lucerne . The following year he was Germany's eighth runner-up in the title fights in Seville . In 2005 he qualified for the four without a helmsman and took 12th place at the World Championships in Gifu (Japan). In 2006 Dießner made it back to eighth place in Germany and after winning the World Cup on the Lucerne Rotsee , the crew won the World Cup again for the first time in 11 years. A year later, Dießner took second place with eighth at the home World Cup in Munich . After poor preliminary performances in two and poor World Cup results in the eighth before the Olympic Games in Beijing, Dießner lost his place in eighth because the German Rowing Association formed a completely new team shortly before the Olympic Games.
