In 2010, two years before the Olympic Games in London, the British eighth came into the public eye with the comeback of the now 38-year-old 1992 Olympic champion Gregory Searle . At the 2010 World Rowing Championships , the British won the silver medal behind the Germany eighth . The following year, the British again received silver behind the Germans. In the Olympic year 2012, the eighth place in Germany remained unbeatable for the British, with two second places and a third place in the World Cup, followed by third place in the Olympic regatta behind the Germans and the Canadians.

In 2013, the British ended the German winning streak since 2009. The British eighth won the World Cup regattas in Sydney and Eton, but only finished fourth in Lucerne. At the European Championships in 2015 , Ransley competed with a newly assembled four-man without a helmsman: Nathaniel Reilly-O'Donnell , Alan Sinclair , Tom Ransley and Scott Durant won the title ahead of the Greek four-man. In the final of the 2016 Olympic Games , as in the three world championships since 2013, the British managed to win ahead of Germany eighth.

Ransley remained a member of the British eight even after the 2016 Olympics. In 2017, the eighth finished fifth at the European Championships and seventh at the World Championships . After finishing fifth at the 2018 European Championships , the British won bronze at the 2018 World Championships behind the Germans and Australians.
