The British head coach Jürgen Gröbler put Reed and Triggs Hodge together with Alex Partridge and Steve Williams in the new British foursome without, the flagship of the British Rowing Association. The four-man remained unbeaten in 27 races from 2005 to the 2007 World Cup in Lucerne, winning all World Cup races and the world championship titles in 2005 and 2006 for two years . After finishing fourth at the 2007 World Rowing Championships , Partridge was replaced by Tom James for the Olympic season. The boat was only able to compete together with the new line-up for the first time at the World Cup in Poznań after injury problems and took second place there. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, the four-man fought an exciting battle with the Australians and just about won the gold medal in the end.
Over the next three years, Reed and Triggs Hodge started in twos without a helmsman and won silver at the 2009 , 2010 and 2011 World Rowing Championships behind New Zealanders Hamish Bond and Eric Murray .
