John Charles Stack (born March 22, 1924 in Camden , New Jersey , United States , † May 28, 1997 in Lake Berryessa , California , United States) was an American rower and Olympic champion .

Life

John Stack was a member of the California Golden Bears , the sports team at the University of California, Berkeley , and won the gold medal in rowing with the US team as a 24-year-old at the 1948 Summer Olympics in Melbourne ( eighth ). After college Stack was an engineer , specializing in X-ray - technology .
