William Jordan (rower)

William "Bill" Conrad Jordan (born June 25, 1898 in Cleveland , † July 13, 1968 in Springfield ) was an American rower .

The United States' eighth was placed by the United States Naval Academy at the 1920 Olympic Games . The eighth won in the preliminary round with a lead of sixteen seconds against the Belgian team, in the semi-finals the Americans prevailed against the French crew with eighteen seconds. With a narrow margin of 0.8 seconds, the crew won the final ahead of the British eighth. In 1921 and 1922, Jordan won the American University Championship with the eighth of the Naval Academy. In 1923 he left the Navy.

In later years Jordan served as a manager in the aviation industry. After becoming director of the Curtiss-Wright plant in Columbus , he was promoted to president of the company in 1948. In 1954 he joined Hughes Aircraft as President .
