Florian Mennigen (born April 10, 1982 in Ratzeburg ) is a former German oarsman. He is Olympic winner with the Germany eighth and participant of the Olympic Summer Games 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London.

Sports career

Florian Mennigen started for the Ratzeburg rowing club . At the 2007 World Championships in Munich, he took third place in the four-man team with Stephan Koltzk , Philipp Naruhn , Matthias Flach and helmsman Martin Sauer . At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, Mennigen competed in Germany eighth , with which he finished last in the pre-run, hope run and the B-final. A year later he won the rowing world championships in 2009 with the eighth and in the following year he became European and world champion with this boat . With the crew of the Deutschlandachters, Mennigen also won the following World Championships in 2010 and 2011.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he won the gold medal with the Germany eighth and then ended his active career as a rower.

On November 7, 2012, he received the Silver Laurel Leaf for his athletic achievements .

Life

In 2006 Mennigen received his bachelor's degree in psychology from the College of Arts and Sciences at Boston University . In 2016 he became the first German to be inducted into the Boston University Athletic Hall of Fame.

After returning to Germany, Mennigen completed his studies at the Ruhr University Bochum in 2010 with a Master of Science degree in psychology with a focus on business psychology. After graduating, Mennigen was approved as a psychological psychotherapist specializing in behavioral therapy . As a lecturer at the University of Witten / Herdecke , Mennigen has been teaching team skills, communication and stress management since 2016.

Mennigen shares his experience as a competitive athlete with companies and decision-makers on lecture stages, at panel discussions or as part of interactive team events, incentives and seminars.
