Pete Cipollone

Peter M. "Pete" Cipollone (born February 5, 1971 in Marietta ) is a former American helmsman in rowing , who was Olympic champion in eighth and four-time world champion.

Cipollone had already taken fourth place at the Junior World Championships in 1989 with the four-man with helmsman . In the adult class, Cipollone won silver with the four at the 1994 World Rowing Championships . A year later, the American four-man won the gold medal at the 1995 World Rowing Championships with a boat crew that only left Cipollone from the previous year. In 1997, Cipollone moved to the US eighth, who won the title at the 1997 , 1998 and 1999 World Rowing Championships . At the 2000 Olympic Games , the US eight could not continue his winning streak, but only achieved fifth place.

The US eight won bronze with Cipollone at the 2002 World Rowing Championships and silver in 2003 . At the 2004 Olympic regatta, the US eight won the gold medal, the first gold medal for the US eight since 1964 .
