Jürgen Plagemann (born December 28, 1936 in Lauenburg / Elbe ) is a former German rower . In 1964 he was second in the eighth place in the Olympic Games .

The rower from the Ratzeburg rowing club was part of the Germany eighth trained by Karl Adam from 1962 to 1964 . At the first rowing world championships , held on the Rotsee near Lucerne , the eighth team won with Horst Meyer , Jürgen Plagemann, Klaus Aeffke , Klaus Behrens , Hans-Jürgen Wallbrecht , Karl-Heinrich von Groddeck , Ingo Kliefoth , Bernd Kruse and helmsman Thomas Ahrens in front of the boats from the Soviet Union and from France. In 1963 the boat in the same line-up won the European Championships in Copenhagen ahead of the boats from the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia.

For this Plagemann and the eight team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on July 11, 1963 .

In 1964, Kliefoth and Kruse were replaced by Klaus Bittner and Jürgen Schröder . In the changed line-up, the boat won the European Championships in Amsterdam ahead of the boats from the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. At the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the German eighth won his preliminary run ahead of the boats from the USA, Italy and Yugoslavia, while the boats from Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union won the other two preliminary runs. The boat from the USA, as well as the Italians and the Yugoslavs, also reached the finals via the hope races. While the Germans had beaten the boat from the USA by 28 hundredths of a second in the lead-up, the Americans distanced the Germans by five seconds in the final, behind the USA and Germany the boat from Czechoslovakia won the bronze medal.

Jürgen Plagemann is today chairman of the Friends of the Rowing Society in Lauenburg. He has been a member of the Lauenburg rowing society for 60 years , and his brother Hermann is chairman there.
