Friedrich-Wilhelm Ulrich (born October 20, 1953 in Packebusch ) is a former rower from the GDR. In 1976 and 1980 Ulrich was Olympic champion in two with helmsman .

The rower from SC Magdeburg was in 1971 junior world champion in two with helmsman. From 1973 to 1975 Ulrich was GDR champion in the eighth . With his eighth he became European champion in 1973, fourth in 1974 and world champion in 1975. In the autumn of 1975 he formed a pair with a helmsman together with Harald Jahresling and helmsman Georg Spohr . This boat was able to prevail in the Olympic qualification in 1976 against the reigning Olympic and world champions Wolfgang Gunkel and Jörg Lucke . At the 1976 Olympic Games , Jahresling, Ulrich and Spohr were clearly superior and won with almost three seconds ahead of the Soviet boat.

At the 1977 World Cup, the boat finished second behind the Bulgarian boat. In 1978 yearling and Ulrich sat in the GDR eight and became world champions in this boat. The eighth from 1978 was voted Team of the Year in the GDR . In 1979 Ulrich was again world champion in eighth place. At the 1980 Olympic Games , Jahresling, Ulrich and Spohr competed again in pairs with a helmsman. They won just ahead of the Soviet boat.

In 1976 and 1980 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver for his Olympic victories.

After studying sports, Ulrich became a trainer at SC Magdeburg . In 1989 he fled to the West and became a regional trainer for the Saarland Rowing Association.
