Alex Gregory (born March 11, 1984 in Cheltenham ) is a former British rower . He won an Olympic gold medal and three gold medals in the four without a helmsman at world championships , and twice he was world champion with the eighth .

Career

Alex Gregory began rowing in 2001, and in the early years of his career he rowed in scull boats. In 2004 he took eleventh place in the U23 world regatta in the double quad, in 2005 he was fourth in the double scull and in 2006 he finished ninth in the single. In 2007, Gregory competed with the British double scull at the World Championships in Munich and clearly missed the 2008 Olympic qualification with a 15th place.

After switching to oar rowing , Alex Gregory won the four without the two World Cup regattas in Banyoles and Lucerne in 2009, and in Munich the boat came in third. In the cast of Alex Partridge , Richard Egington , Alex Gregory and Matt Langridge , the boat also won the title at the World Championships in Poznan . For the 2012 Olympic season, the British four-man was newly cast, Alex Gregory, Peter Reed , Tom James and Andrew Triggs Hodge won the World Cup regattas in Belgrade and Lucerne, at the World Cup in Munich the boat took second place behind the Australian four-man. At the Olympic Games in London, the British boat won ahead of the Australians.

In 2013 he was in the British eight. At the rowing world championships in Chungju , South Korea , they won gold and thus defeated the Germany eighth . He had always won the world championship from 2009 to 2011 and was also Olympic champion in 2012. The following year, Gregory won the uncontrolled four-man title again at the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam. In 2015, Gregory won the silver medal at the European Championships and the gold medal at the World Championships with the British eighth . At the 2016 European Championships , Alex Gregory, Mohamed Sbihi , George Nash and Constantine Louloudis, four rowers from the 2015 world championship eight , competed in a four-man without a helmsman and won the title. In the same line-up, the British four-man also won the 2016 Olympic Games . After that, Gregory ended his international career.
