Conrad Robertson

Conrad Christian Robertson (born December 27, 1957 in Devonport , New Zealand ) is a former New Zealand rower who was 1984 Olympic champion in the four-man category .

The 1.89 m tall Robertson from the North Shore Rowing Club in Auckland reached eighth place in a two-man with helmsman at the 1978 World Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro, New Zealand . The following year Robertson sat in the New Zealand eighth , with which he won the silver medal behind the eighth from the GDR at the 1979 World Rowing Championships in Bled. In 1980 New Zealand joined the Olympic boycott of numerous western states.

At the Rowing World Championships in Munich in 1981 , Robertson took part again with the New Zealand eighth, who finished seventh in the overall standings. In 1983 the World Championships took place again in the Federal Republic of Germany. In Duisburg, Conrad Robertson, Keith Trask , Gregory Johnston , Les O'Connell with helmsman Brett Hollister started in a four with helmsman and won the title in front of the boat from the GDR. The following year, the Eastern Bloc countries, with the exception of Romania, boycotted the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Les O'Connell, Conrad Robertson, Shane O'Brien and Keith Trask won the first run in the four without a helmsman at the Olympic regatta, the US boat won the second run. In the final, the New Zealanders won by over two seconds over the Americans.

Conrad Robertson switched to scull rowing in 1985 and finished twelfth at the 1985 World Rowing Championships with the New Zealand double scull . This ended Robertson's international career. Robertson remained active at the national level for several years. From 1987 to 1989 he won the national championships in double sculls with Eric Verdonk . Conrad Robertson later took over his family's boat building business in Warkworth.
