Gerhard Auer (born June 29, 1943 in Tepl ; † September 21, 2019 in Rodalben ) was a German rower .

Career as a rower

The rower from Ulm RC Donau joined the Lake Constance four in 1969. In addition to batsman Peter Berger , Hans-Johann Färber and Alois Bierl were in the boat. Because of the great strength values ​​of the four rowers, they became known as the bull quad . With helmsman Stefan Voncken , the four became European champions in 1969 and world champions in 1970. In 1971 the boat defended its European championship with helmsman Uwe Benter .

The boat, which had been unbeaten for years, was a huge favorite for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. The bull quad steered by Uwe Benter won the expected gold medal safely in front of the boats from the GDR and Czechoslovakia , it was to remain the only rowing gold for the Federal Republic in 1972. For this, he and the other members of the Bullenvierer received the silver bay leaf on September 11, 1972 .

After the Olympic Games, the crew separated, only Hans-Johann Färber was still present at the 1976 Olympic Games .

Professional career

With a brief interruption, Gerhard Auer was managing partner of Wasa Wohnen GmbH & Co. KG in Waldfischbach-Burgalben in the Palatinate for almost 40 years (1979–2018) . The company produced and sold high quality solid wood furniture with the claim to healthy living.
