Uwe Benter (born December 1, 1955 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German rower. The rower from RC Hassia Hanau joined the Lake Constance four in 1971.

In addition to batsman Peter Berger , Hans-Johann Färber , Gerhard Auer and Alois Bierl sat in this four. Because of the great strength values ​​of the four rowers, they became known as the bull quad . With helmsman Stefan Voncken, the four became European champions in 1969 and world champions in 1970.

In 1971, Benter became German champion as the helmsman of the eighth from the 1898 rowing club in Dortmund. Before the European championship, Voncken retired from the Lake Constance four-way and was replaced by Uwe Benter. Together they won the European Championship in 1971.

The boat, which had been unbeaten for years, was a huge favorite for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. On September 2nd, the regatta course in Oberschleißheim was sold out, but the rush of visitors without tickets was so great that the fences couldn't hold up. The bull quad won the expected gold medal safely in front of the boats from the GDR and Czechoslovakia, it should remain the only rowing gold for the Federal Republic of 1972. After the Olympic Games, the crew separated.

For winning the gold medal, he and his team received the silver laurel leaf .

Uwe Bender's brother Lutz Benter was an Olympian in a two-man team in 1968 as a helmsman.

Today Uwe lives in Frankfurt am Main, is married and has two children.
