Karel Mejta

Karel Mejta (born June 18, 1928 in Třeboň ; † November 6, 2015 ) was a Czechoslovak rower .

At the Olympic Games in 1952 , the Czechoslovak four-man with helmsman won with Karel Mejta, Jiří Havlis , Jan Jindra , Stanislav Lusk and helmsman Miroslav Koranda in the third run with five seconds ahead of the Norwegians. The US rowers won the first semi-final, and the Czechoslovaks won the second semi-final with a lead of seven tenths of a second over the Swiss boat. The USA and Czechoslovakia qualified for the finals as winners of the semi-finals and Finns, Swiss and British as winners of the hope runs. In the final, the Czechoslovaks won three seconds ahead of the Swiss and the US boat, the British and the Finns did not make it into the medal ranks.

At the European Rowing Championships in 1953 , the Czechoslovaks won gold with the same line-up in front of the boats from the Soviet Union and Switzerland. With Radomir Plsek for Koranda, the Czechoslovak four-man rowed bronze at the European Rowing Championships in 1954 behind the Soviet boat and the Danes.

Karel Mejta's son Karel Mejta junior reached the Olympic final in 1976 and 1980 with the Czechoslovak eighth.
