Émile Henri Lachapelle (born September 12, 1905 , † February 1988 ) was a Swiss athlete who took part in rowing and sailing in the Olympic Games.
As a member of the Société Nautique de Genève , Lachapelle joined the European Championships in Barcelona in 1922 as the helmsman of the pair of Édouard Candeveau and Alfred Felber , the Swiss boat won the title and was able to successfully defend it a year later in Como. The three Swiss also won the 1924 Olympic Games on the Seine near Argenteuil .
In the four without a helmsman, Émile Albrecht , Alfred Probst , Eugen Sigg and Hans Walter won the bronze medal. These four rowers, together with the helmsman Fritz Loosli, also qualified for the final in a four-man with a helmsman . According to Volker Kluge , Loosli only steered the boat in the run-up and in the hope run , in the final Lachapelle steered the boat and won his second gold medal.
Émile Lachapelle was a very versatile athlete. In 1923 he was Swiss junior champion with Servette Geneva and in 1930 also Swiss ice hockey champion with Servette Geneva .
In 1941, 1942, 1947 and 1948 Lachapelle was again Swiss champion, this time in sailing. At the Olympic Games in 1948 , he finished seventh in the six-meter class.
