Heinz Renneberg
Karl Heinz Renneberg (born October 29, 1927 in Gelsenkirchen , † October 25, 1999 in Herne ) was a rower from the Federal Republic of Germany, who became an Olympic champion in a two-man team in 1960 .
He started rowing in 1941. In 1951 and 1952 he was together with Heinz Eichholz German champion in two without a helmsman . At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , the two finished third in the preliminary run. They did not take part in the hope race because Eichholz fell ill.
In 1960 he won the all-German Olympic qualification in a pair with helmsman together with Bernhard Knubel and helmsman Klaus Zerta .
At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, the regattas took place on Lake Albano . The German boat won the lead in 7: 31.64 minutes. In the final, the boat won in 7: 29.14 with just under a second ahead of the boat from the Soviet Union.
The trained machine fitter joined the Gelsenkirchen rowing club . In total, Renneberg won over 120 regattas.
He was honored for his sporting success by being awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf .
