Renzo Sambo

Renzo Sambo (born January 17, 1942 in Treviso , † August 10, 2009 in Cesiomaggiore ) was an Italian rowing athlete .

In the second half of the 1960s, Renzo Sambo was one of the most successful rowers in two with a helmsman . At the European Championships in 1965 he won the silver medal with Primo Baran and Giorgio Conte behind the Soviet boat, two years later with Baran and Bruno Cipolla gold in front of the representatives of the GDR with Hans-Jürgen Friedrich , Werner Riemann and Manfred Wozniak . The high point of his career was participation in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City , where Sambo won the gold medal with Baran and Cipolla ahead of the Dutch and Danes. Four years laterhe took part in Munich again in the Olympic Games. Together with Antonio Baldacci , Pasquale Chiabai , Claudio Padoan and Alberto Cecchi , he started in a four-man with helmsman and finished eleventh.
