Ivo Stefanoni

Ivo Stefanoni (born June 5, 1936 in Mandello del Lario ) is a former Italian helmsman in rowing, who reached the finals three times in three Olympics and won two medals.

Ivo Stefanoni was employed by Moto Guzzi in Mandello del Lario ; so he was able to do the sport of rowing in the in-house sports club of Moto Guzzi . A boat from this sports club was able to qualify for the European Rowing Championships in Bled in 1956 ; Franco Trincavelli , Angelo Vanzin , Romano Sgheiz , Alberto Winkler and helmsman Ivo Stefanoni took third place in the four with helmsman behind the boats from Finland and the Soviet Union.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, the five Italians won the final three seconds ahead of the Swedes and the Finnish European champions; the boat from the Soviet Union had already been eliminated in the semifinals.

In 1957, the entire foursome switched to eighth and won the European Championships in Duisburg. Sgheiz, Winkler and Stefanoni helped defend the title in Poznań in 1958. For the 1960 Olympic Games , Stefanoni switched back to the foursome, who took third place behind the boats from Germany and France in the line-up of Romano Sgheiz, Franco Trincavelli, Fulvio Balatti , Giovanni Zucchi and Ivo Stefanoni.

In 1961 Stefanoni won his third European title with the eighth in Prague. From this eighth there were still three men in the eighth at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo: Giampietro Gilardi , Sereno Brunello and Ivo Stefanoni. The Italian eighth finished sixth in the 1964 Olympic final.
