Life

He won five German championship titles at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin together with Hans Maier , Ernst Gaber , Paul Söllner and helmsman Fritz Bauer gold in a four with helmsman . In the 1936/37 season, he and his Mannheim trainer Fritz Gwinner moved to the Berlin Rowing Club , with which he was European eighth champion in Milan in 1938 .

After finishing his own sporting career in 1958, he became the head coach of the Berlin Rowing Club. The athletes he supervised won eleven German championships in various boat classes at the first rowing world championships in Lucerne in 1962, the world championship in four-man with helmsman, in 1963 in Copenhagen in the same boat class, the European championship, and at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo , with the team: Peter Neusel , Bernhard Britting , Joachim Werner , Egbert Hirschfelder and helmsman Jürgen Oelke , also in a four with helmsman, the gold medal.

Walter Volle died in Berlin in October 2002 at the age of 89. His grave is in the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend (grave location: 6-F-30).
