Dieter Wendisch

Dieter Wendisch (born May 9, 1953 in Gauernitz ) is a former German rower who started for the GDR .

Dieter Wendisch started for the SC Einheit Dresden , where he was trained by Hans Eckstein . With the four-man with helmsman of his club, Wendisch became youth champion in 1969 and junior champion of the GDR in 1971. In 1975 he was moved to eighth and appointed to the national team of the GDR. With the eighth he became world champion and 1976 Olympic champion in Montreal . For this success he also received the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. In 1977 he returned to the controlled foursome. In 1977 and 1978 he was able to become world champion in this boat class, and he also won gold at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow . After the Games, he was also awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold in 1980 .

After his active career, the trained mechanical engineer worked at the VEB Kombinat Zentronik Dresden . Today he is the technical director of the Altenberg bobsleigh run .
