Cornelis "Niels" Pieter van der Zwan (born June 25, 1967 in Scheveningen ) is a former Dutch rower . He participated in the Olympic Games from 1992 to 2000 and became Olympic champion in 1996.

Niels van der Zwan from the Delftse student Roeivereniging Proteus-Eretes won silver with the four-man without a helmsman at the unofficial U23 world championships in 1989 . The following year he also received the silver medal at the world championships in the adult class, after he had reached the goal together with Jaap Krijtenburg , Bart Peters and Sven Schwarz behind the Australians but in front of the GDR team that was competing for the last time. After finishing fifth at the 1991 World Championships , the Dutch four-man without a helmsman also finished fifth at the 1992 Olympic Games .

In 1993 van der Zwan moved to eighth and finished fifth in the 1993 World Championships for the third time in a row at the season highlight. At the World Championships in 1994 behind the USA and in 1995 behind the Germany eight, the Dutch eight won the silver medal. In 1996 the Dutch eighth won the pre-Olympic regattas in Duisburg and Lucerne quite clearly. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the Dutch won clearly ahead of Germany eighth.

After a two-year break, Niels van der Zwan returned to eighth in 1999 and finished fifth at the World Championships . Four years after the Olympic gold medal, Nico Rienks and Niels van der Zwan were two more members of the 1996 gold eighth in the boat that finished eighth at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
