Lutz Ulbricht

Lutz Ulbricht (born November 9, 1942 in Berlin ) is a former German rower . He won the Olympic gold medal in eighth place in 1968 .

Ulbricht started in Frankfurt am Main for the Frankfurt RG Germania . In 1963 he and Detlef Damboldt finished third in the German championship in two without a helmsman , in 1964 the two runners-up behind the Karlsruhe boat with Michael Schwan and Wolfgang Hottenrott . From these four rowers, a four without a helmsman was put together in 1965 , which immediately won the German championship and became vice European champion.

In 1966 Ulbricht and Schwan switched to the Germany eight under Karl Adam . This boat won the German championship title and also won the World Championships in Bled . In 1968 Ulbricht was again in the Germany eight. Horst Meyer , Dirk Schreyer , Rüdiger Henning , Wolfgang Hottenrott, Lutz Ulbricht, Egbert Hirschfelder , Jörg Siebert , Roland Boese and helmsman Gunther Tiersch became German champions together. At the Olympic Games , Roland Boese had to be replaced by Niko Ott due to illness and this line-up won gold in front of the Australians. The Germany eight was voted Team of the Year in 1968.

In 1969 Ulbricht won together with Bernd Gördes at the German championship in two-man without. In 1970 he rowed with Udo Brecht and the two won bronze at the World Championships in St. Catharines . Also at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , Ulbricht started in two without, this time together with Erwin Haas . However, the two missed the final and won the B final, which brought them to seventh place overall.
