Eckhard Martens

Eckhard Martens (born June 12, 1951 in Bützow ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic . In 1972 he won the Olympic silver medal with the four-man with helmsman .

Martens switched from football to rowing in 1966. In 1968 Zander won the Spartakiade . After the eighth from the Federal Republic of Germany had won the title at the first two World Rowing Championships in 1962 and 1966 , the GDR eighth won in 1970, which was composed of very young rowers by coach Elmar Anthony. In 1972 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze for his athletic achievements .
