Mark Udo Mauerwerk (born November 7, 1965 in Schwelm ) is a former German rower who was world champion with the eighth .

Athletic career

Mark Mauerwerk won his first German championship title in 1987 in rowing in a four-man with a helmsman . In 1989, Mauerwerk won the championship title both in the four without a helmsman and in the eight, and in 1991 again in the eight.

At the 1989 World Rowing Championships , Mauerwerk won the world title with the Germany eighth . That year the eighth also won the Grand Challenge Cup at the 150th Henley Royal Regatta . The Germany eighth was the first team ever to stay on the track under 6 minutes. Together with the eight team, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf in 1989 for his athletic achievements.

At the 1991 World Rowing Championships, a lot of brickwork was worn out shortly before the finals due to injury. The Germany eight won the title this year with two substitutes, as Frank Richter was also unable to take part in the finals due to injury.

In parallel to his sporting career, Mauerwerk completed a geology degree with a focus on geoinformatics from 1988 to 1996 at the Ruhr University in Bochum . After completing his geology studies, he first worked as a management consultant, then as chief architect at DB Systel and finally as lead architect for artificial intelligence at Deutsche Telekom IT GmbH.
