Daniel "Dan" Beery (born January 4, 1975 in Vincennes ) is a former American rower .
Career
Beery, a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2000, celebrated his first major success at the 2002 World Rowing Championships in Seville by winning the silver medal in a two-man with helmsman. A year later at the 2003 World Rowing Championships in Milan , Beery secured his first title in this discipline.
At his only Summer Olympics in Athens in 2004 , he won the gold medal in eighth with Jason Read , Wyatt Allen , Christian Ahrens , Joseph Hansen , Matt Deakin , Beau Hoopman , Bryan Volpenhein and helmsman Pete Cipollone . In the lead-up, the boat set a new world record with a time of 5: 19.85 minutes. In the same year Beery won the rowing world cup in a foursome. In recognition of his successes, he was allowed to throw the first pitch together with his teammates of the Olympic Games at the major league baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Seattle Mariners on July 16, 2005 .
In the same year Beery won at the World Rowing Championships in Japan Kaizu along with his teammates the title in the eighth. Two years later he won the world championship title in the four-man with helmsman at the 2007 rowing world championships in Munich . In the same year he won eighth at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro .
Beery, who has worked as an insurance broker for sports insurance in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania since retiring in 2008 , married rower Jennifer Goldsack on January 17, 2009 , but divorced her.
In 2010, Beery was inducted into the National Rowing Foundation's Hall of Fame in Mystic Seaport , Connecticut .
