Nikola Stojić

Nikola Stojić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Никола Стојић ; born December 15, 1974 in Belgrade ) is a former Serbian rower who took part in the Olympic Games four times. In 2007 and 2013 he was European champion in two-man without a helmsman .

Athletic career

Stojić started rowing in 1986. In 1992 he finished fifth at the Junior World Championships in a pair without a helmsman . In 1994 he started in a foursome with a helmsman at the Nations Cup, the forerunner of the U23 World Championships , where he finished fifth, and won the title the following year. At the 1995 World Championships in the adult class , he reached the A-final with the four-man with a helmsman and finished sixth. In 1996, Stojić reached sixth place with the controlled foursome at both the Nations Cup and the World Championships .

After a tenth place in the double scull at the 1997 World Championships , Stojić won his first international medal in the adult division at the 1998 World Championships . Together with Đorđe Višacki in two without a helmsman, he won the bronze medal behind the German Detlef Kirchhoff and Robert Sens and the Australians Drew Ginn and Mike McKay . In 1999 Nikola Stojić tried his hand at the one , but only finished 13th at the World Championships . In 2000 he rowed again with Đorđe Višacki in two. The two won the Rowing World Cup in Munich, and they finished fifth at the Olympic Games in Sydney .

A year later, the two finished fifth at the World Championships in Seville . In 2003 Nikola Stojić rowed with his new partner Mladen Stegić to eighth place at the world championships . In 2012 in London Nikola Stojić took part in the Olympic Games for the fourth time, together with Nenad Beđik he reached the B-final, to which the two Serbs did not take part. At the European Championships , the two won the bronze medal behind the Dutch and the Spanish boat. At the beginning of the 2013 season, Beđik and Stojić won the title at the European Championships in Seville, ahead of the Poles and the Dutch. At the 2013 World Championships , the two achieved ninth place. A year later, Stojić also reached ninth place at the 2014 World Championships , but in a four-man without a helmsman . In this boat class, Stojić tried to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in 2015 , but 14th place at the 2015 World Championships was not enough. He competed again at the Rowing World Cup in Varese in 2016, after which his twenty-year competitive sports career ended.

The 1.98 m tall Nikola Stojić rowed for Red Star Belgrade and Partizan Belgrade .
