Career
Shcharbachya started rowing in 1999. He took part in international competitions for Belarus early on, for the first time at the 2001 World Junior Championships in Duisburg. He immediately succeeded in winning the silver medal with the young four. In two other participations in the U19 World Championships, however, he and his teams only make it to fourth place. In the subsequent U23 age group, Shcharbatschenja rowed very successfully on an international level. In his three participations in the world championships from 2005 to 2007 he won a gold medal in scull boats.
Shtscharbatschenja was also used in the open age group early on. He had his first start at the World Cup at the age of 17 in 2002. As a 19-year-old he was already being prepared for the 2004 Olympic rowing regatta , where he reached the finals with Valery Rodevich , Pawel Schurmei and Andrej Pljaschkou and took 6th place. In the following years Shtscharbatschenja started in addition to his successes in the U23 junior class also continuously at the open world championships, where he made it to the final for the first time in a double scull with Dsjanis Mihal at the 2007 event in Munich . At the European Championships held a little later in Poznan , he succeeded in winning the bronze medal with the Belarusian selection in the double quad. In the 2008 Olympic season, Shcharbatschenja focused on the double scull with Mihal. After preparing for the World Cup, the duo missed the finals at the Olympic regatta in Beijing by a large margin and came in seventh overall. A little later, it was only enough to finish ninth in the same line-up at the 2008 European Championships .
In the new Olympic cycle, Shcharbatschenja initially continued as a sculler and rowed in one test at the World Cup. At the 2009 World Cup , he got back into the double scull with Mihal, but the duo was only 14th. Participation in the European championships of the same year in Brest, where Shcharbatschenja and Mihal with Rodevich and Kirill Lemeschkewitsch won the silver medal behind the Ukrainian selection, was more successful . In 2010 Shcharbatschenja was less successful, he skipped the World Cup in New Zealand. He then switched to the oar with Mihal and successfully rowed in a four-man without a helmsman with Wadsim Lyalin and Alexander Kosubowski to EM silver in 2011 and Olympic qualification in 9th place at the World Championships in Bled . With the same cast, the quartet also took part in the Olympic rowing regatta in London, where they finished seventh. A few weeks later, Shcharbatschenja with Kosubowski and helmsman Piotr Piatrynich won the 2012 world championship in the non-Olympic class two with helmsman .
Shcharbachya spent the 2013 season again in the large Belarusian oar boats. After an appearance in eighth at the World Cup, he rowed again in the four-without at the World Championships , but again missed the final. From 2014 onwards, Shcharbatschenja started only in one . At the European Championships, he finished 4th in 2014 , 7th in 2015 and 5th in 2016 . He finished the world championships with two seventh places in 2014 and 2015 at a similar level. He also qualified for the starting place in the single at the 2016 Olympic Games for his home country. In the final of the Olympic Regatta in Rio de Janeiro, he finished fifth.
