Jovan Popović

Jovan Popović (born May 11, 1987 ) is a former Serbian rower who was world champion in two with helmsman in 2006 and second in the world championship in four with helmsman in 2007 .

Athletic career

Popović started rowing in 1997. In 2004 he finished fourth with Goran Todorović in the two-man without helmsman at the Junior World Championships , in 2005 the two rowed to fifth place. Also in 2005, Goran Jagar , Cedomir Nikitović , Goran Todorović and Jovan Popović won the four without a helmsman at the U23 World Championships . In 2006, Marko Marjanović and Jovan Popović won the silver medal in two without a helmsman at the U23 World Championships. At the World Championships in Eton won Nikola Stojić , Jovan Popović and helmsman Ivan Ninković in controlled two.

In 2007 Popović finished fifth in the four without a helmsman at the U23 World Championships. At the 2007 World Championships in Munich, Popović competed in two boat classes: In the four without a helmsman, the Serbian four rowed into the D final. The four-man with helmsman with Marko Marjanović, Jovan Popović, Goran Jagar, Nikola Stojić and helmsman Saša Mimić reached the A-final and won the silver medal behind the US foursome. Three weeks after the World Championships in Munich, the European Championships took place in Poznan , where Popović took fifth place in the four without a helmsman. In 2008 he reached sixth place in the four-man team at the U23 World Championships.

After a long break, Jovan Popović returned to international competition in 2011. At the 2011 World Championships he finished tenth together with Nikola Stojić. At the European Championships , the two Serbs won bronze behind the Greeks and the Italians. In 2014 at the European Championships in Belgrade , Popović rowed the four-man without a helmsman to twelfth place.

The 1.98 m tall Jovan Popović rowed for Partizan Belgrade .
