Tihomir Franković

Tihomir Franković (* 30th September 1970 in Split ) is a former Croatian rowers , who along with Igor Boraska and helmsman Milan Razov 1994 coxed pair the first gold medal at World Rowing Championships won for Croatia.

Athletic career

Boraska, Franković and Razov took fifth place in the two-man team at the 1993 World Championships and were just over a second behind the German boat in third place. At the 1994 World Championships in Indianapolis, the Croatians won with eight tenths of a second ahead of the Italian two-man. In 1995 in Tampere Franković finished thirteenth with the Croatian eighth . At the 1996 Olympic Games he placed seventh with the four without a helmsman as the winner of the B final.

In 1997, Tihomir Franković and Igor Boraska won the World Cup in Munich in a double without a helmsman . After two fifth places in the other two World Cup regattas, the two Croatians only took fifth place in the B final and thus 11th overall at the World Championships . At the 1998 World Championships in Cologne , Denis Boban , Igor Boraska, Tihomir Franković, Siniša Skelin and helmsman Ratko Cvitanić won the silver medal behind the Australian boat in a four with helmsman . At the 1999 World Championships , the four rowers tried to qualify without their helmsman in the Olympic boat class four without a helmsman for the 2000 Olympic Games, which did not succeed with reaching the C-final. In the 2000 season, the Croatian eighth won the first World Cup regatta. At the Olympic Games in Sydney, the British won ahead of the Australians, the Croatians with Igor Francetić , Tihomir Franković, Tomislav Smoljanović , Nikša Skelin , Siniša Skelin, Krešimir Čuljak , Igor Boraska, Branimir Vujević and helmsman Silvijo Petriško received the bronze medal.

The 1.92 m tall Tihomir Franković rowed for HVK Gusar from his hometown of Split.
