Matthew Tarrant (born July 11, 1990 in Ashford , Surrey ) is a British rower .

Career

Tarrant started at the Junior World Championships in 2007 and finished seventh in the two-man without helmsman ; At the Junior World Championships in 2008 he won the silver medal in the four-man with helmsman . At the U23 World Championships he reached third place with the British eighth in 2010 and 2011 . In 2012 he and Kieren Emery won the U23 title in the two-man without helmsman. Emery and Tarrant also competed together at the European Championships in 2012 and finished fourth.

In 2013 Tarrant started in a four-man without a helmsman , which finished fifth at the World Championships in Chungju . In 2014 Tarrant rowed in the British eighth with which he won the bronze medal at the European Championships and the title at the World Championships in Amsterdam . In 2015, Tarrant won the title at the World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette, together with Nathaniel Reilly-O'Donnell and helmsman Henry Fieldman in a pair with helmsman .

In 2017 he moved up to the British four-man team, and after a weak start to the season, he finally won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Florida with the team Matthew Rossiter , Mohamed Sbihi , Tarrant and William Satch . In 2018 Tarrant returned to eighth. After finishing fifth at the 2018 European Championships , the British won bronze at the 2018 World Championships behind the Germans and Australians. The following year, the British eighth won silver behind the Germans at the 2019 European Championships in Lucerne. At the world championships, the Germans won ahead of the Dutch and the British.
