Andreas Kuffner (born March 11, 1987 in Vilshofen an der Donau ) is a former German rower . In 2011 he was world champion and 2012 Olympic champion in eighth place .

Life

Kuffner was born in 1987 in Vilshofen an der Donau . He attended the Vilshofen grammar school . After finishing his career, he initially worked as a keynote speaker.

Sports career

Kuffner began rowing in 2002 at the Vilshofen rowing club in 1913 . Since studying at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin , he has been rowing for the Berlin Rowing Club , with whose club he won his first German championship title in 2009. In the same year he won the German championship in the U23 foursome, as well as the bronze medal in the foursome without a helmsman at the U23 World Championships . In 2010 the Berlin rowing club was able to defend its championship title in eighth. In 2010 Kuffner competed for the first time in the Rowing World Cup in Munich in a four-man without a helmsman, and in the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne in a two-man without a helmsman . At the 2010 World Championships in New Zealand, he started with Eric Johannesen in two without a helmsman and took fifth place. In 2011, Kuffner and Johannesen moved up in the Germany eighth , with which they won the German championship title and the World Cup regattas in Munich and Lucerne; in between, the two competed with Richard Schmidt and Kristof Wilke at the World Cup in Hamburg in a four-man without a helmsman and also won in this boat class. For his sporting successes, Kuffner was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Gauck on November 1, 2016 .

He ended his career in December 2016.
