Luka Grubor

Luka Grubor (born December 27, 1973 in Zagreb ) is a former British rower of Croatian origin.

Grubor was at the Junior World Championships in 1991 as a member of the Yugoslav team, fourth in the two without a helmsman . After Croatia's independence, Grubor rowed for Croatia at the World Rowing Championships from 1993 to 1995 . His best place was ninth in the four-man team at the 1994 World Rowing Championships . In 1995 Grubor left Croatia and went to study in England. As a student at Somerville College , University of Oxford , he took part in the 1997 Boat Race .

From 1998 Grubor was allowed to start internationally for the United Kingdom. At the rowing world championships in 1998 he finished eighth with the four-man with helmsman. In 1999, Grubor moved to eighth and finished second three times in the World Cup: twice behind the Romanian boat, once behind the Russian eighth. At the 1999 World Rowing Championships , the defending champion from the USA won ahead of the British, who in turn left the Russians and Romanians behind. In 2000, the Croats won the World Cup opener ahead of the British. The other two World Cup regattas were won by the British, who also secured the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney ahead of the Australian hosts and the Croatians. At the World Rowing Championships in 2001 , Grubor finished fifth with the British eighth.

In 2002 the 1.98 m tall Luka Grubor switched to the four-man with helmsman shortly before the world championships and won his only world championship title in this boat class at the end of his career.
