Tamar Beruchashvili ( Georgian თამარ ბერუჩაშვილი ; born April 9, 1961 in Tbilisi , Soviet Union ) is a Georgian politician and university professor. She was Georgia’s Foreign Minister from November 11, 2014 to September 1, 2015.

biography

Beruchashvili studied chemistry and French from 1978 to 1985 at the Moscow University of Friendship between Nations . She then worked for the Georgian Academy of Sciences and the Georgian Ministry of Research. From 1996 to 1998 she studied at Indiana University Bloomington in the United States.

From 1998, Tamar Beruchashvili held various deputy or full-time ministerial posts in the Georgian government. Among other things, she was trade minister from mid-1998 to spring 2000 and, from March 2004, head of the newly created ministry for European integration. In December 2004, she retired to the post of deputy minister and held that position for seven years. In addition, Beruchashvili taught at various Georgian universities, most recently at Ilia University .

Tamar Beruchashvili was Deputy Foreign Minister from April 2013. After Maja Panjikidze resigned on November 5, 2014, she was appointed the new Foreign Minister a few days later.

In early December 2015, Beruchashvili was appointed Georgia's ambassador to the United Kingdom. The start of duty was set for March 1, 2016.

In 2017, Beruchashvili was named the best female diplomat from the Eurasian region by the British magazine Tata DIPLOMAT.
