Kieran West

Kieran Martin West (born September 18, 1977 in Kingston upon Thames ) is a former British rower .

Kieran West was already quite successful as a rower in the youth field, but then paused for three years because of persistent back problems. In 1998 he made his debut in the Rowing World Cup . In 1999, the 2.04-meter man moved into eighth place both at Cambridge University and in the British national team . After winning the Boat Race with Cambridge in 1999, he finished second in all World Cup regattas with the British eighth, and the British also won the silver medal behind the US boat at the World Championships . The 1999 British boat with Bob Thatcher , Ben Hunt-Davis , Fred Scarlett , Louis Attrill , Luka Grubor , Kieran West, Timothy Foster , Steve Trapmore and helmsman Rowley Douglas was supplemented in 2000 with Andrew Lindsay and Simon Dennis for Thatcher and Foster. The British won two World Cup regattas and then also won the Olympic regatta in Sydney .

In 2001, West returned to the Cambridge eighth after a year break and won the Boat Race again. In 2002 West competed at the World Championships in Seville with Tom Stallard , Luka Grubor, Steve Trapmore and helmsman Christian Cormack in a foursome and won his only world title. The following year, a newly formed four-man with James Livingston , Richard Egington , West, Stallard and helmsman Peter Rudge won the silver medal at the World Championships in Milan . Then Kieran West returned to eighth, with which he did not reach the A-final at the 2004 Olympic Games . At the 2005 World Championships , the British eighth finished fourth, and in 2006 the boat finished fifth. In 2006 and 2007 Kieran West competed in the Boat Race again, and in 2007 he achieved his third victory after 1999 and 2001. In the winter of 2007/2008 it became apparent for Kieran West that he would not qualify for the Olympic Games due to an injury and he ended his rowing career.

Kieran West graduated from Cambridge with a degree in mathematics and economics and then pursued postgraduate studies in military history. Kieran's older brother Damian West took part in the 1996 Boat Race for Oxford and was part of the UK national team in the 1990s.
