Gilles Bosquet

Gilles Marcel Bosquet (born July 14, 1974 in Reims ) is a former French rower . In 1996 he won the Olympic silver medal in the four without a helmsman .

Athletic career

The 1.93 m tall Gilles Bosquet took fourth place in a two-man with helmsman at the Junior World Championships in 1991 , and in 1992 he won the silver medal. In 1993 he won the bronze medal with the eighth at the Nations Cup, a forerunner competition of the U23 World Championships , in 1994 he won silver in the four with helmsman . In the same year he also took part in the four-man with helmsman in the world championships in the adult class and reached fourth place. In 1995 at the World Championships in Tampere he was tenth in eighth.

At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 , the French finished third behind the Australians and the Slovenes in the preliminary run. In the semi-finals, the French won ahead of the Italians and Australians, with all three boats crossing the finish line within 0.37 seconds. There was also a tight run-in in the final. Gold went to the Australians, 0.66 seconds ahead of the French Bertrand Vecten , Olivier Moncelet , Daniel Fauché and Gilles Bosquet. The third-placed British and the Slovenes were less than a second behind the French.

In 1997 at the World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette, the British won almost four seconds ahead of the French, who competed in the same line-up as in 1996. In 1998, the four-man teamed up with Anthony Perrot , Francois Meurillon , Daniel Fauché and Gilles Bosquet. The British won 1.3 seconds ahead of the French, who in turn were only 0.02 seconds ahead of the third-placed Italians. In 1999, Bosquet finished eleventh with the French eighth at the World Championships in St. Catharines . In 2000 Bosquet returned to the four without a helmsman, who achieved second place behind the British at the World Cup in Munich in the line-up of Daniel Fauché, Antoine Béghin , Laurent Béghin and Gilles Bosquet. At the Olympic Games in Sydney, the French four-man missed the A-final and finished in seventh place.

In 2001 the four-man without a helmsman did not reach the A-final at the World Cup in Seville. At the 2001 World Championships , Bosquet competed in a four-man with a helmsman, who won the title ahead of the Italians with Gilles Bosquet, Vincent Gazan , Vincent Millot , Sidney Chouraqui and helmsman Christophe Lattaignant . In 2003 Bosquet tried a comeback and reached fourth place with the French eighth at the World Championships in Milan . The eighth had qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games , but Bosquet was no longer there in 2004.
