The Lac d'Aiguebelette is located in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and is one of the largest natural lakes in France with an area of 5.45 km² . The lake is privately owned by the French utility EDF and the Chambost family.
The lake hosted the 1997 World Rowing Championships and was also selected to host the 2015 World Rowing Championships . The second rowing world cup of 2014 was also held on the lake.
