It belongs to the canton of Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin in the Arrondissement of Chambéry and is a member of the Le Lac d'Aiguebelette municipality . The inhabitants are called Gabellans or Aiguebelletois .

Aiguebelette-le-Lac is located about eight kilometers west-southwest of Chambéry on Lac d'Aiguebelette . Neighboring communities of Aiguebelette-le-Lac are Nances in the north, Saint-Sulpice in the northeast, Vimines in the east, Lépin-le-Lac in the south and southwest, Saint-Alban-de-Montbel in the west and Novalaise in the northwest.
