After the population had slowly but steadily declined since Savoy was annexed to France (1372 inhabitants were counted in 1861), the trend reversed in the 1980s into a strongly pronounced steady population increase. The local residents of Domessin are called Domessinois (es) in French .

Economy and Infrastructure

To this day, Domessin is predominantly a village characterized by agriculture , the usable area of which is declining slightly due to the strong increase in population and the resulting expansion of the settlement area. There are also various local small-scale businesses and some medium-sized businesses. In the meantime the village has also developed into a residential community. Many employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the neighboring departments.

The place is off the major thoroughfares in a network of departmental roads that connect it with its neighboring communities. The next motorway connection to the A43 (Lyon – Chambéry) is eight kilometers away at Saint-Genix. The airports in the region are Lyon-St-Exupéry (distance 67 km) and Chambéry-Savoie (28 km).
