Verel-Pragondran is a French municipality with 476 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the canton of Saint-Alban-Leysse in the Arrondissement of Chambéry .
geography
Verel-Pragondran is located at 580 m , about five kilometers north-northeast of the city of Chambéry (as the crow flies). The mountain village extends in the west of the Savoie department, on the southwestern edge of the Bauges massif and at the foot of the Nivolet, in a panoramic position around 300 m above the Chambéry valley plain.
The area of the 6.53 km² large municipal area includes a section of the solid mass of the Bauges. The main part of the area is occupied by a south-sloping ledge on the western slopes of Nivolet and Mont Revard . The western border runs above the steep drop to the Chambéry depression. The area is drained by the Dorfbach from Verel to the south to the Leysse (tributary of the Lac du Bourget ). To the east, the community area extends over the slope, which is criss-crossed by characteristic rock bands, to below the Nivolet summit. At around 1500 m , the highest point of Verel-Pragondran is reached in the far north at the height of Mont Revard. The municipality lies within the Regional Nature Park Massif des Bauges (French: Parc naturel régional du Massif des Bauges ).
The community consists of the districts Verel ( 580 m ) and Pragondran ( 820 m ), both located on the ledge at the foot of the Nivolet. Neighboring municipalities of Verel-Pragondran are Drumettaz-Clarafond in the north, Les Déserts and Saint-Jean-d'Arvey in the east, Saint-Alban-Leysse in the south and Sonnaz and Méry in the west.
history
