View of Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny

Located at the foot of the 2040 meter high Arcluse , one looks down from the village into the Isère valley , a tributary of the Rhone . The main town of Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny is surrounded by numerous smaller suburbs. The picturesque town center with its narrow streets has been renovated and freed from through traffic. Smaller shops and the bistros typical of France are located around the old church in the center of the village.

Although the place is surrounded by rather high mountains, the climate is very mild. Wine, vegetables, fruit and corn are grown on the flat slopes around the village. Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny is one of the larger wine-growing communities in the Savoie department. The municipality is located in the Savoie wine-growing region . White wines made from the Altesse grape variety (locally called Roussette ) may be marketed under the protected designation of origin Roussette de Savoie . The AOC Vin de Savoie applies to white wines of other grape varieties and red wines . The rather dry wine has also found its fans in Germany.

In the past it was mainly viticulture and agriculture that fed the population, today many residents commute to work in the neighboring towns of Chambéry and Albertville . Both cities are only around 20 kilometers away and connected by a motorway.

In the past 30 years, many new building and industrial areas have emerged around the old town center. As part of the construction of the new motorway, Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny was given a recreational area with a lake and a campsite in the Isère floodplain below the town. There are also numerous private holiday apartments that make it possible to go on holiday in Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny.

Miolans Castle

The community is located within the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park . The medieval castle, the Château Miolans , is located on a ridge about two kilometers from the village . Before the French Revolution of 1789, the seat of the Dukes of Savoy had the same importance for Savoy as the Bastille in Paris . At times, up to 200 prisoners were imprisoned at Château Miolans . The building is still one of the most important castles in France. In the vicinity of Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny there are very beautiful hiking areas and swimming opportunities in the nearby lakes, Lac du Bourget and Lac d'Annecy . The mountain ranges of the Bauges and the Beaufort , home of the cheese of the same name, invite you to go on excursions and mountain hikes. The famous French ski areas of Courchevel , Lac de Tigne and La Plagne can be reached in a good hour's drive. When the weather is clear, the Mont Blanc, only about 70 kilometers from Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny, can be clearly seen.
